Covid focused our travels mainly on the country. As the trip down the Florida Key’s has always been on my bucket list, we jumped at the chance to drive down the long highway.
Unfortunately, the drive down was done at night, and therefore, there are no photos. On the way back, we were tired and forgot to take photos.
We arrived in Key West around 10:00pm. Our hotel, easy to find, was awaiting our arrival. Casa Marina Key West, a Curio Collection by Hilton, is nestled on the beach. The following morning, we enjoyed the beautiful view our or window looking south.

We wanted to maximize the weekend and, therefore, left early in the morning to venture around town. We came from a city where covid was taken very seriously and everything was locked down and masks were mandatory everywhere. Key West was the opposite. It was as if Covid did not exist. It was just different for us and a very free feeling.
We made our way to the furthest southern point in the USA. Technically, this is the furthest South Point that civilians can reach. The most southern point is located on a military base. But we got our photo.

We moved along and learned some history about Key West. Ernest Heminway had a home in Key West. The home is now a museum. We spent some time wandering the house and the grounds. Although I’m not a big history person, I enjoyed this tour. So much beauty.

Next, we drove over to Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park. This is old barracks out on the point with a beautiful view.

Afterward, we wandered out to Fort Zachary Taylor Beach. Looking north, you can see the military base with the radar domes. Technically, that radome on the right is the most southern point.

A walk around town we found some sights including a theater.

One of the Key West bucket list items was Cuban Coffee. I am a big fan of coffee, and I love strong coffee. Grand Havana had some amazing Cuban coffee.

At some point, we ventured out to the beach by our hotel and ordered the mandatory drink.

Sunday morning, we started off with breakfast at the Banana Cafe. Banana Pancakes by Jack Johnson came to mind. The food was delicious and was devoured quickly.

After breakfast, we started our way back north to Miama to catch a late night flight back home. While driving up the highway, we were able to spot the infamous US Border blimp radar. I’ve never seen one in action, so this was exciting to me.
